Continuing Care Retirement Communities CCRCs
What is a Continuing Care Retirement Community?
There are many important benefits of living in a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). In order to fully understand these benefits, it’s important to understand what a CCRC is.
Simply put, a CCRC is a particular type of retirement community that offers several levels of health care on one campus:
- Independent Living for residents who don’t need personal assistance.
- Assisted Living for people who require a little help with the activities of daily.
- Memory Care
- Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation (both short- and long-term Medicare facility) in an on-campus Health Care Center.
Having several levels of care available on campus is an incredible benefit-it provides you with the security of knowing that if you need assisted living, memory care, or skilled nursing care at some point in the future, you won’t have to move to another community. Couples find this aspect of CCRC living especially important.
Should one spouse need the services provided in another part of campus, the other can easily visit any time of day. This means couples can regularly spend time together socializing, dining, or engaging in activities. And, they know that their loved ones are receiving the services they need to thrive and maintain as much independence as possible.
There are many great facilities throughout the US, however, I know some non-profit Continuing Care Retirement Communities Houston TX that does an excellent job. That is just one of the type of CCRCs you can find on the Cypress Trio website.
Financing for CCRCs are dependent upon the portion of the community where the resident lives. Mostly, the fees are private pay, however there may be some coverage with Medicare for short term stays in skilled nursing, a Medicare facility. Some communities have “buy-in” fees and you should consult a financial expert or eldercare attorney to fully understand how these work.
